My brilliant idea - Pasta master

Numeracy

Ages 5-7

The next time you come across those almost empty pasta packets in your kitchen cupboards, think again before you throw them away. Think pasta patterns.

Provide a selection of differently shaped and coloured pasta. Next, ask each child to create a repeating pattern using the pasta and arrange it on a piece of rectangular card.

Their partner then tries to continue the pattern that has been created. When both children are happy that the correct pattern has been followed, the pasta can be glued to the card and mounted for display.

This activity can be varied by placing the pasta at various angles. It's good fun and meets speaking, listening and numeracy objectives.
