My brilliant idea - Positive reflections

PSHE - Ages 5-11

This helps pupils to develop self-esteem. Pass around a mirror and ask the children to describe one thing they see. Typical responses might be: "I can see freckles" or "My eyes are brown."

Talk about how the reflection shows what they look like, but not the kind of person they are.

After a discussion about positive qualities, ask them to pass round the mirror again to think of something positive about themselves that can't be seen in a mirror. Examples might be: "I am helpful" or "I can cheer people up."

Children then can create posters, drawing a picture of themselves and then label or draw the good things about themselves.
