Music- Before entering music education I enjoyed a busy schedule as a percussionist and drummer. As a result, my taste is eclectic: Beethoven to Blues Brothers, Bartok to Black Eyed Peas; I love and appreciate all music. I’ve been blessed to perform with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, New Squadronaires Orchestra, Whisky Kiss (T in the Park 2010) and the Anton Du Beke and Erin Boag dance tour. I’m listening to soul artiste Jessie J, the critics’ choice award-winner at the Brits. I read she was banished from the school choir for being too loud!
Reading- I’m reading the Lynda La Plante thriller collection. I find the storylines gripping and hard to put down. I look forward to completing the collection on holiday in Mallorca. I’m loving the latest Nigella Lawson book, Recipes from the Heart of the Home, and plan to experiment with these easy-to-follow culinary delights.
Film- Having two children under 10 restricts this recreation. I am well-versed in Hannah Montana and Shrek, but embarrassingly out of touch with up-to- date cinema. An old favourite is The Bridge on the River Kwai - no Christmas Day seems complete without it. As a musician I feel it my duty to include This Is Spinal Tap, with the “turn it up to 11” quote being a personal favourite.
TV- I love Later with Jools Holland. It attracts a plethora of world-class musicians and they all perform live. I recall being blown away hearing Muse perform. They were followed by Tony Bennett crooning a ballad with a jazz trio - great diversity. I really enjoy the ITV drama premieres: great storylines and acting, with just enough time to boil the kettle during commercial breaks.
