TV
- I know it’s sad but I am a Coronation Street buff. I have been involved in Coronation Street all my life; as small children, my sister and I got to stay up late on Mondays and Wednesdays so Mum could see the Street before we were put to bed. I hate to hear it being called “Corrie” - just laziness as far as I am concerned. I stopped watching for a while when they scheduled it on a Sunday night; somehow it didn’t feel right doing soaps on a weekend. There is always humour in Coronation Street with comedy characters like Norris and the late Blanche always guaranteed to come up with some classic one-liners.
Films
- Sorry, don’t do films. I have the attention span of a goldfish. I tried to watch The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas recently and missed the last half- hour completely. And no, there was no liquid sedative imbibed! Just as well I read the book. I don’t think they portrayed the father as well as in the book - he seemed a bit of a cold tattie in the film.
Books
- Well, now you’re talking! I attend a monthly book group. That is really good because it makes you read books that you would not normally. At the moment, we are reading The Testament of Gideon Mack by James Robertson. I am also in the middle of Restoration by Rose Tremain. I get through a book every fortnight in term time and more in the holidays. Books are my weakness; where other people are drawn to shoes, so am I to books. Charity shops are especially tempting and I have more books stacked up waiting to be read than there are hours in the day. Roll on retirement!
