Film
- I remember going to see Star Wars: Episode IV when it came out at the Toledo in Muirend, and have loved movies ever since - Hollywood blockbusters such as the Bourne films, comedies such as Wedding Crashers and cult movies such as The Princess Bride and independent films. I’m a comic-book geek. Batman is a particular favourite of mine, and I think Christopher Nolan’s bat trilogy has been superb. I like classic film, too, and always go to the Glasgow Film Theatre on Christmas Eve to see It’s a Wonderful Life.
Music
- My musical taste is a real mixed bag, with everything from The Corries and Christy Moore through to Anthrax and Iron Maiden. I love my “poodle rock” - Bon Jovi are particular favourites - and also still listen to the Scottish bands from when I was growing up like Deacon Blue, Del Amitri and The Proclaimers. Out of the more current stuff, The Killers, Snow Patrol and Foo Fighters are brilliant. I enjoy going to gigs, and have been to some absolute stormers - U2 at the SECC and Take That’s Circus tour were amazing, but the Texas reunion gig at the Barras topped them all. My guilty musical secret is that I’m a big Wet Wet Wet fan, but let’s not mention that .
Books
- I will read anything. All-time favourites include Tolkien, James Herriot, Vince Flynn, Mark Frankland, Raymond E. Feist, Christopher Brookmyre and Stephen Donaldson. I really enjoy Dan Brown, especially Angels amp; Demons. I have recently discovered Alex Gray, and she’s very good. As an occupational hazard, I read quite a bit of children’s literature and it can be brilliant - books like the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan and There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom by Louis Sachar.
