Name calling - part I

Sound advice has come the way of Sheena Devlin, heidie of Dunbarney primary in Bridge of Earn - near Perth for those not in the geographical know - who has been seconded to the Scottish Executive as an adviser on A Curriculum for Excellence.

On the way to Victoria Quay for her induction day, Devlin's taxi driver asked the purpose of her journey. She explained that it was the new job of reviewing the school curriculum.

"That's easy," he says. "You need the three Rs, a bit of C and no G."

She obviously understands the three Rs, but enquires what a bit of C is.

"That's computing, all kids need that nowadays.

"And the G?"

"Nae guff."
