National Poetry Day: teachers celebrate their favourite poems

Teachers in classrooms across the country are using National Poetry Day as a great excuse to embrace the artform. 

The event is in its 21st year and encourages people from all walks of life to get into verse.

Some teachers have been inspiring their pupils in the classroom by reading out their favourite poems:

As well as sharing their favourite poems in class, teachers have been posting their top picks on Twitter under #NationalPoetryDay. Here are some of our favourites:

Some schools have gone the extra mile with special events and readings. Tupton Hall secondary school in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, has even made a video of its teachers’ favourite poems for the annual celebration:
