Fiona Hyslop, new Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning, is anxious to avoid using the acronym Neet for teenagers who disappear off the radar when they leave school.

Some waggish officials have privately suggested “MC2” might be a suitable alternative, taking their cue from the action plan on young people not in education, employment or training, More Choices, More Chances.
