PHOTOGRAPHS of children on school websites are putting pupils at risk from paedophiles, according to child protection experts.

Concern over child safety is growing as thousands of schools set up Internet pages to advertise their facilities and achievements.

Police warn that pictures which identify children or show them in sports events are dangerous, as paedophiles could use them to track down pupils or to create pornographic images A Home Office report earlier this month revealed that one in five children visiting Net chatrooms had been approached by paedophiles.

Guidance has been sent to heads in Scotland urging them to use anonymous shots of children and forbidding the use of photos of pupils in shorts, leotards or swim suits. The document, from Edinburgh Council, warns that children with special needs are particularly vulnerable.
