AUSTRALIA. For the first time in Australia next month, school-leavers in Victoria will be able to download their final examination results off the Internet - three days before the postman delivers them.

The new Internet service follows the introduction last year of a results telephone “hot line” which attracted almost 40,000 callers.

Telephoning would cost $2.40 a minute (96p) while using the Internet to download the marks would cost $7.50 (Pounds 3), the charge to register for a special password from the Board of Studies which administers school assessment in the final two years.

Also for the first time this year, school-leavers across Australia will receive a score that is equivalent to those in every other state and territory - except Queensland.
