Neuroscience for teachers must be a joke

Please, please tell me that your story "Getting inside their heads: teachers to learn neuroscience to cope with SEN 'avalanche'" (1 April) was an April Fool!

Since I began teaching in 1965 I have seen institutional, ideological and subject content changes of an enormous range. There is no doubt that these reflect fashions and fads, as well as the expansion and contraction of expenditure on schooling by subsequent governments.

Rarely, however, have I been as horrified as I was by this report. Beware the experts who once classified the eight stages of "simpleness", from "slow" through "idiot" to "imbecile", or believed everything from mathematical ability to the love of children could be measured by studying the shape of the head.
