The UK Government has opened a new pound;200,000 agricultural college in Helmand, Afghanistan, in a bid to discourage farmers from growing opium poppies. The Agricultural High School will teach a four-and-a-half-month programme to more than 1,300 18- to 20-year-old men. Officials said its opening was a sign of increasing security in the province.
