A pound;400 million scheme to raise standards and increase school places in London will mean around 20 new secondary schools, Stephen Twigg, the capital’s minister, has told The TES. But he denied reports that a secret hit list of 50 poorly-performing London schools had been drawn up. Closures are a “very last resort” as the Government tries to increase school places.
