The Lache County infants school in Cheshire has received a good deal of attention in the press in recent weeks. Such articles cannot deal fully with the record of the school over several years and may be read as reflecting adversely on the former headteacher and teachers.

The school has enjoyed similar attention before. There was a period during the 1980s when Pat Pearce was headteacher when national and local education and civic leaders visited the school and praised its achievements with disadvantaged children. In a recent letter to Mrs Pearce, the current head, Sue Pearson, has said “the changes which I made were changes to my own previous practice, as I stated at the press conference”. This clarification has received attention in our local press but I thought that we should make the important point to a wider audience.
