But the value of the contracts won by NCFE and City & Guilds is 30% less than originally advertised in March

The value of the second wave of T-level contracts, announced today, is significantly lower than originally advertised. 

The Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education has revealed that the total value of the contracts for the seven T levels due to start in 2021 is about £20.4 million – around a third down from the £30 million originally advertised in March

In February, Tes revealed exclusively that the contract value for the first three T levels, which will start being taught next year, had been almost halved, with student numbers revised down significantly.  

The IfATE announced today that awarding organisation NCFE has been awarded contracts to develop the new T level qualifications for digital business services, digital support and services, health, healthcare science and science. Meanwhile, City & Guilds has been awarded the contract for onsite construction and building services engineering.

T levels contract values 

  • Lot 1 – Construction (Building Services Engineering + Onsite Construction) Total Contract Value = £3.8m (advertised: £5.8m)
  • Lot 2 – Digital Business Services - Total Contract Value =  £3.4m (advertised: £4.8m)
  • Lot 3 – Digital Support services - Total Contract Value =  £3.1m (advertised: £4.7m)
  • Lot 4 – Health - Total Contract Value = £4m (advertised: £5.8m)
  • Lot 5 – Healthcare Science - Total Contract Value = £3m (advertised: £5m)
  • Lot 6 – Science - Total Contract Value = £3.1m (advertised: £4.9m)
