A RECENT visit to Thurso (for we travel widely) elicited the little-known fact that one-time White House intern Monica Lewinsky spent four years of her childhood there while her parents worked at the American naval radar base.
Fellow pupils at the town’s Mount Pleasant primary in the late 1970s remember her being popularly known as “Fatty”. Saff, on the other hand, recall her mostly for her oral skills.
Jotter readers would not, of course, jump to any unseemly conclusions. Apparently young Monica won a number of speech and drama competitions for her mastery of the local dialect.
Perhaps special prosecutor Kenneth Starr misheard the Caithness burr in her testimony.
