No, it’s not Born Free: it’s the adult jacket for The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, part of publisher HarperCollins’s “Read it before you see it” campaign for CS Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia. The viewing opportunity comes this Christmas with the release of the Disney and Walden film of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, starring Tilda Swinton and Jim Broadbent, and special effects from the Lord of the Rings team. I think the new iconic jackets are more successful for The Magician’s Nephew and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. At least you can always insist on the original children’s covers if you intend to stack up the Chronicles of Narnia next to your beach mat. Meanwhile, Collins Education is about to send out 21,000 education packs with A2 film posters and key stage 2 and 3 teaching ideas on The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Eventually there will be a film and a schools pack for each of the seven books.

If your school doesn’t get one, see www.collinseducation.com (click on Reading, then Chronicles of Narnia). You can download the pack’s resources from Collins and Film Education, and your pupils can enter the schools competition launched in the pack, with two tickets to the December 9 world premiere of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe as first prize. Others will win tickets to local screenings for the whole class and copies of the book.
