The campaign for women’s representation in the Scottish parliament has not surprisingly struck a chord with May Ferries, outgoing EIS president and Glasgow primary teacher.
She was supervising a dinner queue, proudly displaying a “5050” lapel badge in the Suffragette colours of green and purple, when a child came to the obvious conclusion. “Hey, miss, is it your birthday?” Ferries can still see considerable daylight between her last birthday and her 50th.
