Contrary to your headline (TES, July 6), independent schools are not “poised for takeovers” of state schools or education authorities. The reaction of John Bangs, of the National Union of Teachers, is premature.
But the Independent Schools Council, which represents 1,275 schools, would be foolish not to respond positively to a government which is, unlike Mr Bangs, open-minded enough to realise that the sectors can learn from each other.
That is why an ISC committee will examine the Government’s public-private initiatives to see whether there are ways that ISC schools could be involved.
