A new programme of education services for young people living in west Belfast has been launched by education minister Caitriona Ruane.

The Integrated Services for Children and Young People (ISCYP) initiative is aimed at tackling high levels of unemployment and social deprivation in the area, where seven out of every 10 adults have no or low levels of qualification.

The #163;5 million initiative will provide a range of education and well-being services across four main areas: family support, mental health, early years and learner support.

“In the long term this will contribute to greater employability, better quality of life and, crucially, improved mental well-being and self-esteem for the area’s young people,” said Ms Ruane.

ISCYP was launched following recommendations from the West Belfast and Greater Shankill task force report. MR.
