Meanwhile, Hazel Lendrum, the former president of the Ulster Teachers' Union, was bewildered upon arriving in Brighton for the Association of Teachers and Lecturers' bash to find the town deserted. Thankfully, some kind soul directed her to Bournemouth. And, it is whispered, insiders at the National Union of Teachers were particularly delighted about the Northern Ireland peace deal, timed as it was to oust the union's conference from its usual news bulletin-topping status.
