Not so ship shape

I was hugely entertained by the level of mildly restrained cynicism in Beverley Briggs’ thoroughly modern alphabet (January 1). Just the thing to get the new year started. I was, however, puzzled by the reference to “naval (sic) gazing” (see T is for Thinking Skills).

Here in South Devon I acknowledge that I am blessed by being able to contemplate Her Majesty’s vessels negotiating the breakwater at the entrance to Plymouth Sound, but I can’t quite see how this contributes to my developing the attribute of self-reflection.
