More closures. North Lanarkshire is about to embark on a “review” of school provision. This should be fun.

For it will surely bring together those old adversaries, Labour’s education convener Charlie Gray and former SNP Cumbernauld provost Gordon Murray. Guess what the problem area is called? It’s called Cumbernauld.

The two limbered up for a practice session at last week’s education committee. When Jim McGuiness, the council’s head of support for learning, offered to accompany Murray to investigate whether a vacant library in his ward could house under-fives, he was slapped down by Gray who growled: “You’re not going out with him; you’ll go out yourself.”
