GET YOUR TV SCRIPT SCREENED

Channel 4's "The Big Breakfast" is offering students aged 11-16 and 16-plus the chance to get their five-minute soap opera, sit com, drama or film excerpts screened on the show in July 1999. In addition, the winning entrant in each age category will be awarded a prize worth Pounds 5,000 and their schools will receive prizes to the value of Pounds 500-Pounds 1,000. An accompanying pack contains English and media studies projects, clips from Channel 4 programmes, a poster and teachers' notes. Closing date: March 30, 1999. FRENCH MILLENNIUM ESSAY

Reading University's department of French studies is inviting sixth formers to write a 1,000-word essay (in French) on "Le vingtieme siecle: le plus grand siecle pour la France?" Entrants may take a generalised or specialised approach to the political, economic, social, cultural and linguistic aspects of French life. First prize is Pounds 500. Closing date: June 30, 1999.
