On its first competitive outing, the Maria Fidelis Convent School gospel choir won the Senior BBC Songs of Praise School Choir of the Year 2010. The judges were “blown away” by its rendition of traditional hymn ‘As The Deer Pants For The Water’. The London choir beat previous winners St Aiden’s CofE High School from Harrowgate, and Rugby School, a third-time finalist.

Year 7 pupils and their teachers from Bebington High Sports College, which has recently opened its own Confucius unit, went on a tour of Liverpool’s Chinese district as part of the REAL programme, which promotes the cultural awareness and understanding of China.

Disadvantaged youngsters from St Charles Primary, Sion Manning Girls’ and Colville Primary schools in west London donned their whites at the unveiling of a cricket facility at Westway Sports Centre by The Lord’s Taverners ambassador, actor Colin Salmon.

London Book Fair guest Zuliswa Wanner (centre) held a Year 5 writing workshop at Prince of Wales Primary School in Enfield. Pupils also told the South African author about their links with schools in her country.

South Devon College student Vinnie Dutton helps Callum Wickham, a pupil at St Mary’s Primary in Crewe, improve his indoor climbing skills. The collaboration allows sports students to hone their coaching techniques and pupils to learn more about sport.
