Pupils from Gladesmore Community School in Tottenham, north London, celebrated receiving the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service by travelling to City Hall with their giant Value Life sculpture and meeting deputy London mayor Kit Malthouse and MP David Lammy. Gladesmore was recognised for its anti-gun and knife crime campaign.

[QQ]]Young entrepreneurs - and their teachers - from Maltby Academy in Rotherham pick their awards at The Skills Factor 2011, a competition that celebrates business plans developed by students. Maltby beat entries from schools across England and Wales with its idea for a game with different options for people with special educational needs.

First-time shot-putter Lauren McCormick (above) hurled her way into Levenshulme High's record books with an impressive 7.2m throw at the Manchester school's sports day, while fellow Year 9 pupil Charley Benjamin (right) delivered a winning 3.3m in the long jump.
