International conservation charity World Land Trust has produced a key stage 3 Focus on Forests pack, funded by the Department for International Development. It comprises a teaching booklet and 12 student booklets exploring positive actions being taken to combat deforestation and other problems. Case studies include Belize, Malawi, Kalimantan, India, the Solomon Islands and Wales. The pack is complemented by an interactive website (www.focusonforests.org). A free activity weekend at a field studies centre is the reward for Year 8-10 pupils in 12 secondary schools that have participated most successfully in Geographical Association activities over the year. The Worldwise Challenge includes an online and a local schools quiz. A new Photo Gallery activity allows schools to promote examples of good geography. A similar scheme is available for primary schools.
