Novelist Diran Adebayo (pictured) starts four months as the British Museum’s writer in residence this week, working with visitors to the Reading Room and making a video history of Africans’ experiences in London, including interviews with museum staff. Keep an eye on his web diary at www.thebritishmuseum.ac.uk and book for his first public event: on June 16 at 6.30pm he chairs a discussion on the influences of African music. There will be performances from Mercury Prize nominee Soweto Kinch, and Zimbabwean singer-songwriter Netsayi, plus readings on hip-hop culture from Whitbread novel winner Patrick Neate. Box office: 020 7323 8181. A second panel discussion with African writers and a contribution to Children’s Book Week are promised for October.
More fruits of the museum’s collaboration with the BBC Africa 05 programme include the Africa Garden created by the Ground Force team; you can see the real thing at the museum until September 4 and catch the programme in July.
