A pound;50 million campaign to revive cricket in state schools has brought the game to 45,000 children in its first year, according to figures. The Chance to Shine campaign, backed by England’s star players, including team captain and Ashes hero Andrew Flintoff, has encouraged 19,000 girls to get involved in the game. The Cricket Foundation charity launched the drive last year because fewer than 10 per cent of state schools in England and Wales were playing the sport regularly.
