Number of pupils with special needs at mainstream schools is a “tragedy”

* The rising number of pupils with special needs at mainstream schools is a “tragedy”, former chief inspector of schools Chris Woodhead said this week. He said the aount of support children received depended on where they lived, and he described the assessment of children’s needs as “inflexible” and “time-consuming”.
