A school nurse who has devoted her career to teaching children about childcare and parenting has been named nurse of the year.

Melanie Ann Brock, 43, beat 11 finalists for the prestigious Nursing Standards Award.

The mother of two, from Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire, was presented with the national prize by John Hutton, health minister, at a ceremony in London.
