East Dunbartonshire, which complains that it has inherited the worst council nursery provision in Scotland, with places for about 5 per cent of four-year-olds, aims to reach 100 per cent by August 1998, provided there is adequate Government funding.

Bearsden and Milngavie are to get enough extra nursery classes by later this year to satisfy demand in these areas, depending on the council’s budget for capital projects.
