The 13-week old nursery nurses' dispute between Unison and the local authorities took a further step towards closure as staff in Edinburgh, Fife, Renfrewshire, Borders and Orkney accepted local offers and returned to work. This leaves Glasgow as the only authority still to settle. Nursery nurses have been told that the city council has reached "the end of the road" after a mass meeting rejected its latest offer. It has demanded that a postal ballot be held of all Unison's 1,100 nursery nurse members in the city, after only 732 voted at last week's meeting. The union is holding out for pound;10.13 an hour agreed in 17 other authorities, compared with Glasgow's offer of pound;9.83.
