The National Union of Teachers has filed court action against the Government for not adequately consulting it over teachers’ pay and workload. Steve Sinnott, general secretary, has accused Alan Johnson, the Education Secretary, of misleading Parliament by promising to include all interested parties in negotiations, then cutting out the union’s 265,000 members. Unlike the other five teaching unions, the NUT refused to sign up to the “social partnership” between the Government, employers and unions.
