Four out of 10 employers with 11 or more workers now offer national vocational qualifications to their staff, according to a report for the Government this week by independent researchers.

Of these, 42 per said they gave pay rewards to people achieving them, says a report by IFF Research Limited. The rest said NVQs led to further training opportunities and greater chance of promotion.

Education and employment minister Robin Squire said: “The reforms of NVQs resulting from the Beaumont report earlier this year will continue and, hopefully, accelerate this encouraging trend.”
