A joint letter sent to ministers this week by local government and FE leaders spells out detailed proposals for new collaboration between colleges, schools and councils.

The letter, from Local Government Association education chairman Graham Lane and outgoing Further Education Funding Council chairman Sir Robert Gunn, confirms proposals first revealed in The TES earlier this year.

Under the plans councillors would get seats on college boards in return for FE representation on education committees. Councils would also get a voice on FEFC regional committees.

The joint statement also covers convergence of school and college funding and a new joint framework for planning post-16.
