I teach at a Pupil Referral Unit in Norfolk, and am a Senco. As such I am required to study for the National Award for SEN Co-ordination. Imagine my horror when I was told that although I’d registered on the course, I cannot access the same funding as my mainstream colleagues. Why? Because I work in a PRU. This makes no sense. I work with vulnerable children, often with complex social, emotional and learning needs. Already excluded, they are the hardest group to fight for for re-integration. Surely they have a right to the most highly trained staff? Is this another way to save money at the expense of those with the least voice?
