Mission statements come in many forms but none more appealing than that of a community learning access programme being piloted by the University of the Highlands and Islands and published in the Orcadian.
It reads: “All the colleges in the Highlands and Islands workan together tae mak their own university whar ordinary folk o’ all ages can cerry on their schooling tae the highest levels in their own community and celebrate their own wey o’ doing.”
Pity that UHI’s Iain Morrison, who delivered the statement on a Powerpoint at a conference in Stirling last week, did not speak the works in the Orkney accent. And him with a granny from Westray.
