The General Teaching Council for Scotland has no objections to teachers working between sectors - providing they take additional qualifications, as in North Lanarkshire.

The Headteachers’ Association of Scotland argues that introducing primary teachers should not be a cheap way of cutting class sizes in English and maths in S1 and S2.

Jim Dalziel, head at Eastbank Academy, told The TES Scotland last year that blanket political commitments on class size cuts in S1 and S2 were not the type of flexibility schools wanted.

Heads of department had their own preferred methods.
