More than 2,000 apprentices are to be hired by local authorities in the capital over the next three years as they prepare to host the Olympics. Council leaders have promised to provide places in business administration, events organisation, customer service, health and social care, and construction. Prime Minister Gordon Brown has called on the public sector to set an example in offering apprenticeships as the Government seeks to raise the numbers to 500,000 by 2020.
