Among the first changes made by Glasgow Council is the imposition of fees for pre-school places. The collection of what nursery headteachers are already calling Corsar’s cash, in honour of the director of education, has an added complication: separate cash for morning and afternoon attenders.

One heidie is falling back on first principles: “I’m using the Tintin method. That’s one tin for the morning collection and the second tin for the afternoon. ”
