So schools will be offering 5, 6, 7 or 8 Nationals in S4?

Glad that's been cleared up.


I'm going to be printing this article and photocopying for colleagues. What a brave man to say the following: "In some ways I feel a bit isolated and worried. I seem to be going against what friends in Glasgow are doing, but we have been steeped in Curriculum for Excellence at Hillhead and we have fully embraced the principles. However, if I feel my pupils are being disadvantaged in any way, we'll go back to doing what we have done for the past 25 years."


Our educational system is far too resistant to change (30 March)

The Scottish educational system has seen more than its fair share of change over the last 30 years and we (teachers) have often gone that "extra mile" sometimes to make even crazy notions work. The problem is that the system is based on command only. There is little or no control. The leadership class in Scottish education don't want our feedback - that is where the real inertia lies - because they would see that feedback as criticism, and they just can't take that.


Things happen because people make them happen. We have had many changes here, very bad ones from 1992 to 1999, and good ones from 1999 to 2010. The imposition of the bad changes in the first period motivated me to play a role in bringing out the good ones.
