For anyone in the South East Arts Board area who fancies being in on consultations on the drama Green Paper jointly issued by the Arts Council and the regional arts boards, regional consultation meetings take place as follows: Saturday June 24 at Komedia, Brighton from 11am to 1pm and Tuesday June 27 at the Peacocks Centre, Woking from 10.30am to 1pm.

Another Morning, Another Day is a specially commissioned play by Ruth Gow exploring issues of racism today on the fiftieth anniversary of the liberation of the concentration camps. Two girls, one from Auschwitz in 1945 and another from England today, together with a gypsy boy, tell their stories in this musical performed by schoolchildren and young adults, many descendants of holocaust survivors. Good news for Nottingham Playhouse, which has been given the green light for a further three years’ sponsorship from McDonald’s. The meaty deal means secure funding for the Playhouse’s annual pantomime as well as its education programme and the theatre’s Family Fun Day on June 24.
Last month’s European Reminiscence Symposium, held by Age Exchange, focused on the themes of reminiscence and dementia care and reminiscence and cross-generational activities. The symposium was also the occasion for the launch of Europe’s first Reminiscence Training and Development Centre, in Blackheath, southeast London. Next term: a European festival of inter-generational theatre to commemorate the end of World War II, taking place at the new centre and in Cologne. The Theatre Museum is displaying film, masks, prop costume and costume design drawings of students on the Costume for the Screen and Stage course from Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design from June 27 to 30.
The North West Playwrights, as part of the optimistically titled Hothouse Month of New Writing at the Contact Theatre, Manchester, is running summer workshops. These will be presenting five new plays by people new to writing but not necessarily to the theatre. North West Playwrights is the independent playwrights’ alliance for the region.
