Throughout August, the Polka Theatre in Wimbledon, south London, is running a summer school led by professional workshop leaders. Separate age groups from three to 12-year-olds participate in multi-arts programmes, culminating in the performance of a devised play. Box office: 0181 543 4888.

A cast of 60 young people from the north of England and Belfast star in the world premire of Watermark. It’s a drama devised by the young people as part of an intensive South Yorkshire Open College training course, managed by the Made in Sheffield Theatre Company, through Eileen Fawcett, an education officer with Sheffield County Council. The young people have worked with a professional director, writer, choreographer, composer and musical director to create the production, a love story set in urban Britain. The play is being performed at the Sheffield Crucible Theatre tomorrow at 4pm and 7.30pm. Box office: 0114 276 9922.

The last few weeks of the summer term may seem a long way off now, but for the pupils of Croydon’s three Whitgift Foundation Schools, Trinity, Old Palace and Whitgift, the memories of their performance of Macbeth at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre will be with them for a long time to come. As part of the Foundation’s 400th anniversary, a cast of 45 11- to 19-year-old pupils played to an audience of 1400 in what the Globe’s artistic director Mark Rylance called a “highly professional” performance. It was the culmination of eight months’ preparation under the direction of two drama teachers from Trinity School.

In an enterprising partnership, media studies students from the People’s College, Nottingham, filmed and edited a children’s musical production as part of their National Diploma in media studies and have released it. Five students filmed the children, some as young as six, performing Chase the Ace, written by teacher Joy Parson with music by Dave Bilton, who both work at the drama club.

Young people from all over Bedfordshire star in Powerhouse Theatre workshop performances at Bowen West Theatre at De Montfort University in Bedford tomorrow at 7.30pm. The 11 to 15-year-olds have devised and produced theatre pieces under the guidance of workshop leaders to create pieces of physical theatre. Admission free.

Whatever the weather - well, almost - Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre is a dream venue in the summertime. Starting August 5, children aged five to 12 can see a new play, Kids of the Wild West, in performances at 11.15am or 2. 30pm, depending on the date. Unwitting young time travellers find themselves transported from a very 90s theme park to a wild west deep in the throes of the Gold Rush. A sign interpreted performance takes place on August 7 at 2. 30. Box office: 0171 486 2431.
