Further education colleges in Northern Ireland have had millions of pounds added to their budgets by mistake.
All 16 FE colleges in Northern Ireland were given the wrong budgets for their student numbers, it has been revealed.
The Belfast Institute of Further and Higher Education is in negotiations with the Government after it was overpaid pound;1.3million.
A spokesman for the Department for Employment and Learning said the mistakes would be corrected by reducing pending payments to colleges rather than demanding the return of money.
He said it represented less than 1 per cent of the total FE budget allocation and, “although an inconvenience, does not place any of the colleges at financial risk”.
