An expert panel has been set up to make all new school buildings zero carbon within eight years. A task force, led by Robin Nicholson, an architect, will report to ministers by the end of the year on what can be done to wipe out or reduce schools' carbon emissions. Ed Balls, the Schools Secretary, said: "I don't have time for critics who will carp that this is impossible. I know that current technology makes zero-carbon schools expensive and challenging to install on many existing school sites."
