The head of one of the first schools to go grant-maintained has been dismissed on the grounds of gross misconduct. Chris Hampson’s dismissal from St James’s Church of England school in Bolton came after the governing body last week upheld allegations about administrative irregularities.
A statement by the school’s solicitors said: “These irregularities involved the deliberate circumvention of the established financial procedures of the school.”
Mr Hampson was awarded an OBE for services to education last year and chaired the North-west GM heads group.
