THE great and the good among the heidies were summoned last week for breakfast with Jack McConnell, the First Minister, at a Glasgow hotel. Posted missing was Ken Cunningham, president of the Headteachers’ Association of Scotland.
Cunningham had a rather more important date - with Her Majesty - as a thanks for services to education. We have since paid him a fiver for his world exclusive.
“Who are you, then?”
“Kenneth Cunningham, Your Majesty. Hillhead High head, Glasgow, not that far from the Burrell Collection.”
“Burrell? Did you say Burrell? Ah, I think I remember it now. Some papers, artefacts and a few hundred other personal treasures. I haven’t spoken to you before about it, have I?”
“No, Ma’am.”
“What a relief. Congratulations on your CBE, or should I say Can’t Bear Education? Ha, ha.”
Remember, you read it here first.
