Overdue recognition

IN YOUR article “The earnings game” (TESS, February 11) you neglected to include school librarians in your analysis of the average earnings of those in education.

I have been a school librarian since 1992, and even though I’m at the top of my pay scale, I still only earn just over pound;16,500. Our profession has a notoriously high turnover of staff because of the poor salary. Libraians would like to be recognised for the valuable contribution they make to the education process. Otherwise good staff inevitably leave for better paid jobs.

I want to stay in a job I enjoy, but I may be forced to look outside the school sector to get the financial recognition my skills and years of study warrant.
