PAISLEY’S Reid Kerr College, under its new management, now appears to be almost fully on the road to educational recovery following an HMI follow-up report.

It found that 28 of the 29 recommendations made in the original report in 1998 had been satisfactorily tackled by the college, which was facing virtual insolvency, management probles and a breakdown of industrial relations including a day’s strike action in the week of the inspection.

The sole exception to the relatively clean bill of health is course reviews, found to be “not sufficiently rigorous or systematic”. But staff were increasingly and willingly contributing to quality improvements, said HMI.
